Haven't updated this in ages, basically most of the skaters I knew moved away or got a new job limiting their free skate time. I also know for a fact that there are only so many static cam self filmed Impossible variations on banks that the average person can stomach so i figured as they are one of my favourite things I might as well give skate video reviewing a shot .
To put this into context the first skateboard video I ever saw was a VHS pirate copy of the Powell Peralta classic Animal Chin swiftly followed by Streets of Fire by Santa Cruz on the same tape. I'n guessing that would be around 89 ish something like that anyway. Favourite videos of mine like everyone else include Video Days, Questionable , Tim N Henry's , Rollersnakes 720, First Broadcast, the Static Stuff is great , Death vids because they alway make it look like the most fun thing ever and i really enjoy Patrik Wallners Visual Travelling stuff in addition to all the NYC edits and the classic Girl /Chocolate videos.there are loads of others that I can't think of right now......
Vase - Isle Skateboards :
Isle Skateboards inaugural offering is helmed by lensman Jacob Harris giving us a more than worthy follow up to his 2013 creation 11th Hour. Following a helium filled introduction Hornseys finest Tom Knox opens the video with a section you've probably already seen on the Thrasher site. Awkward rough as hell bank spots, loads of tight awkward run ups/ride outs and quick footed awkwardness abound he seems to have to powerslide every 10 seconds to avoid careering face first into brick walls . Front blunts around corners and a beautiful frontside 360 ollie down a skinny set that Jeremy Wray would be stoked on are all handled with apparent ease along with tailslides into steep bank tiled madness. I haven't a clue how he rides down the massive crusty ditch/bank thing on his penultimate trick and don't get me started on his ender, amazing.
Next up is Nick Jensen creating lines between skinny brick bicycle lane islands along with switch road gap flipage and nighttime bench lines. His switch flip at Liverpool Street from Grey Magazine is there and he also does a nice switch heel switch manny up one set and then down a bigger stair set. all of this is set to New Orders Blue Monday, one of the other things I love about this video is the music selection, makes a nice change not to have the tramline US hip hop and all the songs work really well.
Sylvain Tognelli suprised me with his section. He seems to skate faster than I thought ( although that may have been due to having sections too close to those of Chewy Cannon in previous videos) he executes some nice bank bluntside trickery, goes over the barrier at Southbank and you see the footage of the roadgap wallie from Grey.
Paul Shier has a short part that's as stylish as you would expect. Rad line at Southbank and casual as you like wallie and grind to grind ledge stuff. Then it's straight into Jon Nguyens section . Isles Bostonian (I think) connection does a rad 360 flip manny up a tall Wembley gap , along with sizeable switch gap leaping and a rad switch 5050 down a curved Hubba. Following a silent slappy Casper Brooker mixes Southbank radness and tight wallrides with tall flatbar out of steep bank antics and no comply tailslides on ledges off steps, then he hits us with superfast downhill street lines which all combine to make a well rounded section culminating with a sick Southbank banger.
Chris " the bank manager " Jones rounds things off starting with a huge bluntslide at a transitioned brick spot, along with flip to grinds at St Pauls, Big Ben roadgap flipery, block techage ( that is a word...) a super rad hippy jump into a crusty bank before sliding over gaps between benches with ease. Then he burns down colourful tiled tunnels ( god knows where they are ) with high speed lines including huge caught backside flips and does a mad skinny manual trick at Asda along with so much more before his super crazy ender.
The whole video has a nice arty feel to it, lots of clips interspersed throughout its 30 odd minute running time. There are no extras, but who cares when the skating is this good, who watches extras more than once anyway ?
If you like fast raw skating at rugged spots that you could probably hardly ride up you will love it.
Instant classic I reckon.
